Academic Programs

At College of the Environment, our interdisciplinary curriculum is anchored by three academic departments, Environmental SciencesEnvironmental Studies and Urban and Environmental Planning and Policy. Our faculty and students enjoy additional research and learning opportunities through five on-campus research institutes dedicated to furthering the study of energy, resilience, spatial, environmental toxicology, and watershed issues.

Most College of the Environment students complete a 10-15 credit internship, and many of our students receive scholarships based on academic performance and community involvement. Once they complete their degrees, our students go on to pursue a multitude of careers:

  • Research scientists & lab technicians
  • Community activists & volunteers
  • Urban planners
  • Environmental advocates
  • Attorneys & elected officials
  • Writers, musicians, & artists
  • Business leaders

College of the Environment alumni produce films, author legislation, develop urban spaces, help make public policy, and, yes, serve in the PeaceCorps.

At College of the Environment, our unique interdisciplinary approach grounds our students in both the social and natural sciences, and provides our graduates entry into a work force populated with fellow College of the Environment alumni who recognize the distinctiveness--and the value--of a Western education.

"You are brilliant, and the earth is hiring."
