I hope to establish a non-profit that provides underprivileged teenagers with the experience and connections necessary to gain employment on a professional trail crew.

Biography

About me

Outside of school, I enjoy backpacking, slacklining, landscape photography, and trail maintenance. The trail system surrounding the Cyrus Gates Overlook--especially the Chuckanut Ridge Trail--is my favorite hiking destination. Excellent, unobscured views looking towards the east, with hawks and bald eagles soaring in the valley below.

Career plans

I plan on travelling for the next year, and then either pursuing a graduate degree in wilderness management or attending law school. Working for a conservation organization as a youth program coordinator is a career goal of mine. From there, I would ideally establish my own non-profit, which would place an emphasis on providing underprivileged teenagers with the experience and connections necessary to gain employment on a professional trail crew.

My favorite Huxley class/internship/project

For the Environmental Stewardship capstone, some fellow students and I developed a trail maintenance program and an AS-sanctioned club (Western Wilderness Trail Corps). The program continued past the end of the course, and we are currently repairing and maintaining the East Side Trail in the Arboretum.
