Cross-Sector Collaboration
Our partners consist of organizations, schools, agencies, businesses, farms, and municipalities that represent a range of sustainability sectors. Together, this supports developing and applying cross-sector systems thinking skills.
Partners make the program possible through mentoring students in practicum positions, offering resources and funding as available, and collaborating on local projects. Reciprocity is practiced through the skills, energy, and innovative ideas students bring to organizations and the community.
Partner Organizations - Environmental Health
The Methow Conservancy is a non-profit land trust; our mission is to inspire people to care for the land of the Methow Valley. To achieve this, we protect unique wildlife habitats, critical riparian areas, and working ranches and farmland. In addition to land protection, our robust education programs engage residents and visitors, and our agricultural support programs provide resources and information to both farmers and eaters in the Methow Valley.
The Summer Fellow assists with a diverse range of Conservancy programs including conservation easement monitoring on protected lands, field-based volunteer coordination on Conservancy-owned properties, and community education, outreach, and events support.
Preserving, protecting, and perpetuating the state’s fish, wildlife, and ecosystems while providing sustainable fish and wildlife recreational and commercial opportunities.
The Field Technician assists the Habitat Biologists with implementation of the Habitat Program and agency goals, mission objectives, and assignments. This position works as a journey-level biologist under the supervision of a Habitat Biologist and Assistant Manager.
Beaver Food Forest Farm is a peat-free, coir-free native plant nursery in North Central Washington State, specializing in native plants that beavers use for food and construction materials in their crucial watershed restoration work.
The Farm and Nursery Fellow supports farm and nursery operations, helping to grow a diverse range of native plants, cut flowers, fruits, and vegetables. Learning regenerative and innovative methods, the intern will help create the conditions needed for plants to thrive.

The Conservation Fellow works closely with the Education Programs Coordinator,
Conservation Easement Manager, and Conservation Project Manager to assist on a variety of projects that are core to the function of land trust.
The US Forest Service's mission is to sustain the health, diversity, and productivity of the nation's forests and grasslands, serving the needs of present and future generations.
The Botany Technician primarily assists with the surveying and monitoring of rare and sensitive plant and fungal species, most notably Whitebark pine.
The Wildlife Technician performs traditional hands-on wildlife work, on assignments related to all types of wildlife, including small mammals, birds, carnivores, megafauna, fish, reptiles, amphibians, etc
Creating a resilient future in the Methow through Climate Action. We work to implement the Methow Valley Climate Action Plan through education, funding access, and collaboration. Resilient Methow is a program of Methow Valley Citizens Council.
The Climate Leadership Fellow works to support the implementation of the Community Climate Action Plan. The position will entail a combination of research, communications, and collaborative project work with other organizational partners.
A non-profit organization helping our community reduce, reuse, and recycle for over two decades.
The Waste Reduction Fellow focuses on programs at the local materials reclamation facility in Twisp, including recycling, materials reuse, hard to recycle materials, and share library. The fellow learns about the world of rural recycling and waste prevention and how Methow Recycles has built a successful model.
Conducts independent and collaborative wildlife research, offers practical field training opportunities for budding biologists, and works closely with the local community to foster a deep connection between people and their landscape.
The Wildlife Field Fellow assists with data collection for HRWR's lynx-wildfire project, which is critical to better understanding the extent to which endangered lynx using the fire altered landscape.
The Science Communication and Outreach Fellow assists the HRWR Program Coordinator in all aspects of our Human-Bear Coexistence community science project including fieldwork, volunteer management, and outreach.
Provides solutions to support landowners, restoration professionals and educators in understanding the benefits of beavers and the importance of coexistence with beavers for our ecosystem, for our wildlife, and for our community.
The Beaver Project Fellow assists with streamflow restoration project in wildfire impacted streams, with beaver coexistence services and device installations, with beaver relocation work, and developed a summary report.
The MVTC builds and strengthens relationships among trail
managers, advocates, and user groups to support and enhance sustainable trail experiences in the Methow Valley.
The Trails Technician gains hands-on experience maintaining trails to an acceptable federal land manager standard. Projects included trail surveys, clearing fallen logs with saws, trail surface repairs, building retaining walls with on-site materials, and trail bridge reconstruction.
To study and protect carnivores at risk of extinction and the mountain ecosystems they call home through innovative science, strong partnerships and local community action.
The Wildlife Field Technician documents the presence of carnivores, primarily endangered Canada lynx and Cascade red fox, and contributes to a database that informs conservation strategies and management actions for these endangered carnivores.

Offers hands-on, everyday helpful services for daily living, along with a variety of social, creative, and educational programming to support the transitions of aging and build strong community connections.
The Inter-generational Community Health Fellow contributes to “The Methow At Home Legacy Project : Living Wisdom from Methow Valley Elders.”
The Methow Arts enriches the lives of people in Okanogan County by making the arts an integral part of public school education, economic vitality & community.
The Creative Economy Coordinator Fellow works directly with the executive director to expand Methow Arts promotion of the creative economy across Okanogan County.
Expects, encourages, and facilitates the pursuit of excellence in students, preparing them for a world in which life-long learning is critical to their success and happiness.
The Sustainability Youth Corps Leader co-leads the Youth Corps program and collaborates with other staff to implement and lead a small group of high school students in a series of career connected, hands-on work experiences in different areas of sustainability.
A community garden designed to inspire children to grow healthy food and connect with nature.
The Garden Assistant Fellow builds hands-on skills with farming operations, assisted in teaching and garden activities at summer camps, native garden plantings and with responsibilities of non-profit management.
Preserves and shares the history, culture, and sense of place in the Methow Valley to inspire human connection and learning.
The Museum Educator/Docent researches historic practices related to waste management, reuse, and repair, and designed related hands-on educational activities for visitors, wrote and lead public tours, and evaluated effectiveness of the programming.

To advocate for Equitable Opportunities that allow all youth to thrive. Offering services to ensure under-served youth, ages 12-24, have their needs met.
The Systems Change Program Fellow examines local and state policy and funding infrastructure needed to sustain housing projects and programs and our recreation projects and programs.
The OCCAC mission is to lead a revolt on poverty through education, empowerment, and engagement.
The Nutrition Programs Fellow primarily works with the Nutrition Programs Manager and 6 of the 9 food pantries; to include Omak, Tonasket, Oroville, Conconully, The Cove (Twisp), and the Colville Confederated Tribes in Nespelem, on their Sustainability and Succession Plans, and assist them with making and implementing those as needed.
Dedicated to seeking solutions for a sustainably clean airshed and “breathing room” for everybody.
The Clean Air Fellow participates in various aspects of air quality programming, with responsibilities like maintaining air sensor functionality, spotlighting Clean Air Ambassadors, and supporting social media and community outreach during the smoke season.
Supports the growth of an equitable, sustainable and economically thriving food system in the Okanogan region, including Okanogan County and Colville Reservation.
The Research Fellow assists in the creation of a first of its kind 10-year food action plan for the Okanogan region-which includes Okanogan County and Colville Reservation.

Provides a wide array of planning, grant writing and land-use administration services to the small rural communities throughout North Central Washington.
The Sustainable Town Planning Fellow assists the Town of Twisp's contract planner in the day-to-day functions of the Town's Planning Department, particularly with projects emphasizing sustainability, resiliency, and environmental aspects of planning.
Provides a wide array of planning, grant writing and land-use administration services to the small rural communities throughout North Central Washington.
The Sustainable Town Planning Fellow works as a Planning / GIS Technician to assist the Town’s contract planner in the day-to-day functions of the Town’s Planning Department, with a focus on sustainability focused initiatives.
Provides its consumers with reliable energy and services at the lowest long-term cost and in accordance with sound business and environmental practices, to enhance the quality of life of individuals living in our communities.
The Energy Efficiency Fellow works directly with partners in power supply, PNGC Power and Bonneville Power Administration (BPA), to research and develop an energy efficiency program to roll out to our membership.
The Economic Alliance promotes economic development in the region through planning, research, small business advising and development.
The Business and Outreach Communications Fellow provides service side by side with staff to collaborate with businesses from multiple sectors in Okanogan County and beyond to strengthen our communities for economic growth throughout the county.
